Atmospheric & Geospatial Data Scientist

Héctor A. Inda Díaz

I turn large-scale weather and climate data into models and tools that people — utilities, agencies, and fellow scientists — can act on.

About

I'm an atmospheric scientist at Eagle Rock Analytics, building cloud-based climate and weather data platforms for California's energy and government agencies.

My background spans atmospheric science and physical oceanography, and I work across the whole pipeline — numerical modeling, big-data analysis, QA/QC, and turning results into tools that non-scientists can actually use.

I'm especially drawn to extreme and compound events — atmospheric rivers, the North American Monsoon, extreme precipitation, heat waves, and wildfire-weather — and to the supercomputing and open-source software that make studying them at scale possible.

Origen Tequepexpan Café

My family's specialty-coffee project. We grow, process, and roast our own micro-lots from Finca Origen in Tequepexpan, Nayarit — the village where our coffee tradition began — and serve them at our coffee bar in Tepic. I'm a co-founder and coffee producer; my brother Emilio leads roasting and cupping. Natural, honey, and experimental fermentations, with shipping across Mexico.

Amateur barista.

Coffee is where the science and the family farm meet a craft. I spend a fair amount of time on espresso and pour-overs — chasing the same thing I chase at work: a small, controlled experiment with a delicious result.
